Meet the Jaeger Family....March of Dimes Ambassador Family {Brevard County Photographer}

Every year I work alongside the March of Dimes local chapter. I get the pleasure of meeting their ambassador family  and providing them with a session. This year I had the pleasure of meeting the Jaeger Family and sharing their story.

Early in Melissa's pregnancy she began bleeding and was diagnosed with Placenta Pervia which is where the placenta lies low in the uterus. Due to an early diagnosis, this issue resolved on its own and by week 21 the ultrasound revealed everything was going great, but  Melissa had elevated blood pressure. It was monitored and at 22 week she was put on medication for it. By 26 weeks, her blood pressure was still not controlled and she was diagnosed with HELLP Syndrome. She was airlifted to Winnie Palmer Hospital where more tests and labs were preformed. Results showed little amniotic fluid. They wanted to keep Isabella in utero one more day to get a dose of steroids for her lungs. At this point she weight just under a pound. Meanwhile they were also doing round the clock checks on mom to ensure liver or organ failure didn't occur. Isabella was given a 30% survival rate.

The next day via C-section she was born and would begin the fight of her life.  She was able to breather on her own and was immediately rushed to the NICU. She would stay in the NICU for 100days! During this time she received 4 blood transfusions, 3 PIC lines, contracted MRSA at 2 weeks, a brain bleed, 4 rounds of steroids, multiple BRADY Episodes, labs, xrays, eye exams, MRIs and surgery to close the PDA in her heart.

Thanks to research and funding by the March of Dimes many of these procedures were performed from their studies to increase her quality of life. Today Isabella is 9 months old reaching milestone and happy as can be. She was such a sweet little girl to capture.

Mom teared up over the images since these were the first real photos of her sweet family. She never got maternity or newborn photos due to the unplanned events. It's such a honor and privelage to work with sweet families like the Jaeger family and support the March of Dimes.

March Of Dimes Ambassador Family {Brevard County Photographer}

Over the last 4 year I have had the opportunity to meet some amazing families through the March of Dimes. Each year I get to meet the ambassador family and share their story. It is always amazing how each story is different but all have a common ground: babies and the fight of their life. This year's family is no different.

This is Norah's story. Chelsea and DJ McQuaig were high school sweet hearts. They welcomed their first two children, Kylah and Micah, without any issues. Then they were expecting their third child Nora last year. During a routine Dr. visit at 30 weeks, Chelsea was sent to the hospital due to high blood pressure (preclampsia). Chelsea was to remain in the hospital until Norah was born. Chelsea had to stay in the hospital away from her two other children which made things even harder.

At 32 weeks, having headache along with the preclampsia, they induced her to prevent her from getting worse and risking Norah's health in any way. Norah was having troubles breathing so they had to use the surfactant therapy (research funded by the March of Dimes). Dr. Vallette was the NICU doctor taking care of Nora. Chelsea and DJ didn't get to hold their baby until she was 7 days old. She remained in the NICU for 3 weeks before coming home.

Today, Nora is a healthy, strong, and happy baby who is thriving and well. She continues to blossom into a beautiful little girl. Without the research and the funding of the March of Dimes, Norah's story may have been different. Their discoveries and dedication to healthy babies saved Norah's life.

If you are interested in getting involved or donating to the March of Dimes here is some information for you to help:
The annual March for Life Walk is April 29th.
I have a team of walkers. You are welcome to join my team or start your own. Donations are greatly appreciated in helping reach our goals together. You can access the walk information and my team information here: MOD WALK

In addition, the March of Dimes holds the annual Signature Chef Auction. I cannot rave about this event enough.
